Norton University is committed to responding to the educational needs of Cambodia as an internationally respected university producing competitive and productive professionals who will contribute to the social and economic wellbeing of Cambodia and to the international community, and generate further commercial initiatives.
Norton University is also committed to producing future leaders of Cambodia who will preserve the Country’s heritage and values while fostering a spirit of inquiry and understanding.
The University seeks to promote the advancement of knowledge and to undertake research that will contribute to an improvement in the quality of life for the citizens of Cambodia.
Norton University is committed to achieving international recognition for its degrees, its graduates and its academic staff. In order for this to occur, the University is moving towards offering all its programs through the medium of English. However, it is also recognized that the Khmer language is a vital part of the culture and as such it is an imperative that it be preserved, nurtured and cultivated. For this reason the Rector (together with the Governing Council when it is established) are pursuing the implementation of a Transition Plan for the introduction of a dual medium of instruction (Khmer and English) for all of NU’s programs. This plan will set out professional development targets aimed at raising the English competency levels of all Academic Staff.
In addition to the general mission of the University as a whole, each of the three colleges as well as the Graduate School has articulated specific purpose statements as follows:
College of Arts, Humanities, and Languages: To provide students with an in-depth examination of human activities, practices and theoretical approaches to the concepts of culture within the context of modern and developing societies.
College of Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Design, and Architecture: To develop in students the skills necessary to foster quick adaptation to modern society’s rapid changes and developments.
College of Business, Law, and Social Science: To equip students with professional skills to help them cope with the rapid changes of modern employment in their specific fields.
Graduate School: To broaden students’ international perspectives and to foster independent and critical thinkers; to provide graduate students with continuing education and training by offering relevant programs with courses and content tailored to the present and future needs of society; to help graduate students become well-informed and deeply motivated and able to think critically and be responsive to the needs of society; to give graduate students the opportunity to fully develop their abilities and become active participants in a rapidly changing society.
